Budapest Strings 18.07.2024 in the church of St. Euphemia

Budapest String was founded in 1977 by graduates of the Franz Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest, starting first as a septet, and then the ensemble developed into a string orchestra with sixteen strings, which in 1982 was awarded first prize at the International Chamber Orchestra Competition in Belgrade. The orchestra was greatly helped in its development and promotion by the sponsorship of the New York Soros Foundation, and since 1983 it has regularly performed in the most important concert halls in Hungary and today represents an ensemble that has reached the highest European standards of professional excellence. In 1995, he founded his International Haydn Festival, where every year in June he holds a series of concerts in the famous Eszterhazy Castle in Fertod, the place where Haydn lived and composed for many years.

In addition to performing standard string orchestra repertoire, he also performs compositions by Hungarian composers, including Béla Bartók and Leó Weiner. In March 2013, the orchestra performed the world premiere of Robert Gulya’s Nutcracker Variations for Guitar and Strings at the Palace of Arts in Budapest. The chamber orchestra collaborated with prominent soloists such as Peter Frankl, Johanna Beisteiner, Irena Grafenauer and others.
Over the years, they have intensively held concerts as part of tours, and in 2000 he toured Spain (playing 5 concerts, each with all 6 Brandenburg concerts), Germany (twice), Austria, Italy, Belgium, and was a guest twice at the Flanders Festival and in Croatia. In 2002, in addition to the USA tour (fourth in 6 years), the Budapest Strings were invited to Switzerland and Austria, and had several successful tours in other European countries as well. The Budapest strings recorded for Hungaroton, Delta Music, Laserlight, Nuova Era and Naxos.
